Garrison Fun Day to include Poker run, Kid Zone Saturday
A totally fun and enjoyable day is in store for the Garrison Emergency Services Foundation annual “Fun Day" on Saturday, July 9. This event is also the community’s annual celebration.
The day begins with a Poker Run Fundraiser with Registration at the Hitchin Post at 8 AM with departure at 9 AM.
Cookout Contest planned at the Benton County Fair
An outdoor cooking contest designed to promote Iowa meat is being planned by the Benton County Farm Bureau. Contest coordinator, Bill Newton says, “You don't have to be an expert chef to participate; you just need to enjoy cooking outdoors with quality Iowa meat.” The 4th Annual Cookout Contest will be held on Saturday July 16th during the Benton County Fair in Vinton.
PEO Chapter MZ to meet
PEO Chapter MZ will meet at the Dysart Tea Room at 12:30 on Tues., July 12. Meet to carpool at 12 noon.

PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday, July 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Ray House.

Faith Baptist Church Vacation Bible School will be held July 10-13 from 6:15-8:30pm each evening.

Free Car Wash Fundraiser!
Faith Baptist Church youth group is doing a free car wash and accepting donations. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards teen summer activities and camp.

USDA Rural Development Holding Rural-Issues Listening Post in Belle Plaine
Bill Menner, USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa, will be in Belle Plaine from
1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 11th to listen to local community and economic development leaders, as well as the general public, discuss issues and opportunities they encounter in their ongoing efforts to keep rural Iowa vibrant and prosperous.
Iowa State Fair Featured on TV's The View
The Iowa State Fair will be featured on the July 4 episode of The View as the show features food from the country's top fairs. Tune in Monday at 10 a.m. on ABC-affiliated networks to see the segment.
Eric Campbell of Campbell's Concessions represents the Iowa State Fair and demonstrates making corndogs. Other featured fairs include Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio and Texas.
